brunch. it really is the most loveliest of meals. wouldn’t you agree? mimosas, bacon, waffles, eggs benedict, and of course, good company. nola takes brunch to a whole other level. it’s bottomless mimosas, praline bacon, a poached egg atop a waffle and boudin in your benedict. are your taste buds stretching yet?
a weekend in nola is just not complete without sunday brunch. a few of my favorites have been elizabeth’s, the ruby slipper, EAT and apolline (which i’ve actually been to twice because it was so delicious & pleasant.)

elizabeth’s is in the bywater, which is sort of an “up and coming” area. the cool kids hang out here. i’m not cool enough to live there, but i def fancy a visit every so often. a nice touch to this particular visit was that my friend, kacie, was chased by a chicken for a whole block after brunch. apparently this is a common occurrence in this neck of the woods. i was laughing so hard i walked into a car. then again their bloody mary was pretty damn strong. anyways, it was a perfect brunch in nola!

i had two weekends back to back in august where friends came to visit me, which means i got to have a field day picking out restaurants they’ve never been to before. i love playing tour guide! both sundays we went to apolline. yes, partly it was because it’s a mile down the road from me, but mostly because the food was delicious, the service was great & the atmosphere was delightful. it was repeat-worthy. then again, what isn’t delightful with $8 bottomless mimosas.

during my first trip, i took advantage of their coolinary menu. coolinary is a celebration of dining in america’s most delicious city. i love the concept: during the month of august, one can enjoy mouth-watering 2-3 course lunch menus for $20 or less and 3 course dinner menus at $35 or less at over 50 award winning restaurants.  i realize august is long gone, but there are still a few restaurants who’ve extended their coolinary menus through september. so be sure to take a look!

during my second trip, i was craving my current food obsession: the burger. i wish it was something more healthy, but that’s usually the nature of cravings…sinful & delicious. these days, i truly only crave burgers. a whiff of a grill will do me in. it’s a simple creation: ground beef, bread, cheese, tomato, lettuce. but what kind of meat, how it’s cooked, what kind of bread and cheese, the kind of sauce, the freshness of the tomato and lettuce, the addition of a pickle or onions or even–heart be still–a fried egg! it’s the combination of all these factors that makes each restaurant’s burger unique and possibly the tastiest thing you could put in your mouth.

this pretty much sums up my love for burgers. and my love for how i met your mother

“this is God, speaking to us through food.” i second that marshall!

you want more burgers too, don’t ya? ok, i accept your challenge! i will hunt down the best burger in nola. just for you. apolline’s burger is currently at the top of my list!

(more to come later on EAT.)

  1. I concur – Appoline’s burger is one of my favorites, and definitely at the top of the list! If you want to try a Northshore burger, you should add LOLA’s burger (in Covington) from their dinner menu to your list. They only do dinner on Fridays and Saturdays, and are closed for renos right now, but the bacon marmalade on that burger… so good.
